Learn the world
Guide
This world does not work the way other survival games do. Nothing here is invented for flavour — the weather really happened, the plants really grow like that, and the island really is that short of the things you need.
Getting Started
- The ControlsEvery key and both mouse buttons, in one place. Click the window first, or nothing happens at all.
- Breaking, Carrying and the PackHow to get a block out of the ground, where it goes, and what to do when you are full. Holding the button is the part people miss.
- Food, Health and BerriesThe two bars at the bottom of the screen, what empties them, how to fill them again — and what happens when you cannot, and where you wake up.
- Making ThingsHow to make your first workbench with nothing but your hands, and everything the bench opens up after that — planks, sticks, tools, a fire that really burns, a chest to put it all in, and four turf houses that snap together into a farm.
- Other People, and Telling Us When Something BreaksYou can see each other now — a settler walking about with a name over their head, not just blocks appearing. And F8 sends a bug report with a picture of your screen already attached.
Survival
- Time, the Day and the YearA day here lasts twenty minutes, the year has no number, and the clock stops when nobody is playing. Here is why.
- WeatherThe weather in this game really happened. Here is where it comes from, and what it will do to you.
- Norðurljós — the Northern LightsThe lights in your sky really happened, on a real night. Here is what has to line up before you see them, and why you will never see them in June.
- Cold, Wind and RainThe weather does not slow you down or take the controls away. It makes you hungry faster — and that is how the island kills you. What each kind of bad day costs, and the four places you can stand.
